行间字里 is a puzzle from 江湖解谜, a Chinese puzzlehunt. The setup involves a lot of characters overlayed by red question marks of varying sizes.

Solve Path[edit | edit source]

Based on the examples, each question mark is a solution to a rebus-like setup involving Chinese characters. However, some of the characters need to have its shape transformed based on the question mark transformation.

The Chinese characters with pinyin "shu" and "xiu" are "倏" and "修" respectively, so the marked section is "亻", which needs to be reflected.

The Venn diagram asks for the part that is in "讯" but outside "计".

These English words refer to the common radical in Chinese for the two characters "推" and "拉", which is "扌".

The horizontal and vertical lines refer to the Chinese words for horizontal and vertical respectively, and the shaded part indicates taking a particular half. For the example, "横" results in "黄", which translates to "yellow". For the question mark, "竖" results in "立".

The word "dog" refers to the Chinese character "犬", and the upper half is used.

The chemical formula is for aqua regia, which in Chinese is "王水".

Use A1Z26 to get that 11 corresponds to J, so the character "丁" is used.

The word "音" refers to sound and indicates that we want a character with the pinyin "feng xian". The word "义" refers to meaning and indicates that we want a word that has a similar meaning as "付出", which is payment. The result is "奉献", and the lower half of the first character is taken.

There are seven of these "夕" figures, so this rebus is interpreted as “七夕”.

As the example connects endpoints of the star to get a pentagon, the question mark connects endpoints of an X to get a square.

Putting together the parts results in the final cluephrase "气球花拉丁名", which asks for the Latin name of the balloon flower. The (12 11) at the bottom right is the enumeration.
